"A Year From Now, You Will Wish You Had Started Today"

We’ve all had those moments when we’ve looked back and wished we’d started something sooner; a new habit, a course, a fitness goal, or even just prioritising rest or relaxation. The quote by Karen Lamb, “A year from now, you will wish you had started today,” is as a powerful reminder that time will pass either way, and it’s what we choose to do with our time here it that truly matters.  Each day we have 86,400 seconds to spend – do you feel like you are currently spending this precious currency well?  What could you be doing to spend it more mindfully and intentionally?

Fear of Big Leaps

Many of us wait for the ‘right time’ to begin something new. We focus on big, all-or-nothing changes; overhauling our lifestyle, quitting our job, writing a book, running a marathon, but what actually leads to real and lasting transformation is rarely a dramatic leap, instead it’s often consistent, small steps and changes in daily our lives.

A single decision today - to eat a healthy meal, go for a walk, journal for five minutes - might feel insignificant, however, repeated and grown over days, weeks, and months, these tiny actions and steps forward become the building blocks of a stronger, happier version of yourself.

One Step at a Time

Taking control of your life doesn’t mean changing everything at once – it’s about  slowly and consciously mapping out your future path and really investing in yourself along the way.

This could look like:

  • Saying no to what drains you, and yes to what restores you

  • Setting gentle routines that support your wellbeing and keep your energy cup topped up

  • Learning something new to stretch you out of your comfort zone

  • Prioritising rest and recovery without guilt

  • Getting clear on your values and realigning your choices accordingly

These shifts don’t have to be huge to be meaningful, what really matters is the momentum – starting small today, not someday, and not feeling that the only option is to jump in big.

Strong Foundations

Creating a future that feels balanced, fulfilling, and positive starts with a solid foundation, and that foundation is you. Your own physical health, mental wellbeing, mindset, and environment all play a role in building a successful and happy future – discovering what really drives and supports you will make this journey much easier and smoother.

It’s about building habits that support who you want to become. Over time, these small changes create a path that leads you to a happier, healthier version of your life.

Your Future Starts Now

Whether it’s setting boundaries, trying something new, or simply choosing kindness toward yourself, every small choice is a positive seed planted, and a year from now your future self will thank you for starting small today.

So, what’s one thing that you can start today, however small, to begin moving toward the life you really want to live?

Remember, time will pass by either way, so it’s worth really thinking about how would you like to spend your precious time, and imagine how grateful your future self will be of those small changes you decided to make.
